Today marks the beginning of Self Care Week. This is a week long campaign run by the Self Care Forum that runs from 13-19 November 2017.
The Self Care Forum’s defines Self Care as:
The actions that individuals take for themselves, on behalf of and with others in order to develop, protect, maintain and improve their health, wellbeing or wellness.
Self care is about keeping fit and healthy, understanding when patients can look after yourself, when a pharmacist can help and when they should seek advice from your GP or other health and care professionals.
For people with long-term health conditions, self care is about understanding that condition and how to live with it. There is therefore a continuum of support, depending upon the severity of the health conditions at play:
However, at CuraCare, we take the view that self care not only applies to patients but to everyone who works in the health and care profession. It’s only when we truly care for our self, that we can truly provide care for others. This is something for all of us whom work in the care profession to reflect upon.
